Safety Tips: Venturing Outside During COVID-19

On April 28, 2020 Written and Reviewed by JDC Content Committee

Staying home is the best way to remain safe and fight back against the spread of COVID-19, but it’s not always an option. The next best thing you can do is protect yourself with all the means at your disposal. We’ve got a few safety tips to help!

Social Distancing: The Importance of Staying Home

There’s no doubt that it’s challenging, but social distancing and isolation are the only ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The less contact you have with people outside your household, the less chance you have of contracting the virus. One of the most important things you can do is continue to take care of your mental and physical health, oral hygiene included!

Public Safety: Tips to Keep You Safe Outside

At some point, someone from your household will need to go out in public and they’ll definitely need to take proper precautions while maintaining a safe distance from others.

  • Wear a mask with multiple layers that is breathable but fits snuggly against your face. Your mouth and nose should be covered.
  • Do not touch your face while out in public.
  • Avoid using cash and credit card machines (pay online as much as possible)
  • When getting gas, use gloves, disinfecting wipes, or grocery bags to protect your hands when touching the buttons and handles. Dispose of them immediately.
  • Use hand sanitizer while you’re out, then wash your hands thoroughly when you get home.
  • Try running essential errands early in the morning or late at night when there are fewer people out in public.

Shopping & Dining: Do It From A Distance

Thankfully, grocery stores and other retailers have developed some creative ways to limit social interaction and still get their products to customers. Take advantage of alternate shopping methods, like curbside pick-up and delivery.

Missing your favorite local restaurant? Give them a call to see if they’re open! Many restaurants are operational with curbside pick-up and delivery options. It’s the perfect way to support local businesses and give yourself a much-needed dose of the outside world!

At Jefferson Dental and Orthodontics we’ve partnered with Lazy Dog restaurants in our community, next time you place your to-go order you may just find a Jefferson Dental kit in your bag! You will also receive a 10% discount if you use the code JEFFERSONDENTAL at participating locations!

Our Jefferson Dental Content Committee supports our team by educational and informational articles related to what we do, oral care tips, and current events in our communities.
