All teenagers have his or her insecurities. For Jonathon Coiro, it is his teeth. “I have a lot of gaps in my teeth,” said Jonathon. “And I’ve been really insecure about it.”
Jonathon was hoping to get braces. But that changed when his father passed away a few months ago, leaving his mother as the primary source of family income. When Jonathon realized the cost of braces was simply out of reach, he thought, “I’m just going to live with it. I’ll be able to pay for it maybe when I grow up.”
Jonathon and his mother Maria had visited the office of Dr. Ayla Idilbi of Jefferson Dental to explore the possibility of braces. When Dr. Idilbi heard about Jonathon’s disappointment, she and her team wanted to help. “(We wanted) a way to make him smile, to make him happy about how he looks,” said Dr. Idilbi. So, on December 18, 2018, Dr. Idilbi and her team surprised Jonathon with their own holiday gift. They donated the entire cost ($4,500) of Jonathan’s braces.
“It is an answer to our prayers,” said Jonathon’s mother.
