#ReasonToSmile Amid COVID-19 Quarantine: A Cleaner Planet

In these unprecedented times, it may be more challenging to find a #ReasonToSmile, but one positive impact of our current situation can be found in our environment.

Finding the Bright Side

Amidst whatever feelings we may be processing, the world has been changing around us. As we travel less, we use less fuel, and consequently, release less pollution into the atmosphere. Waterways are running clear and the skies are clearer over busy metropolitan areas across America (and the world).

Signs of Improvement Around the Globe

The earth is showing signs of recovery from years of overuse. The effects of the pandemic shutdown are visible everywhere, though most noticeable in popular, high-traffic areas.

After Italy’s lockdown, locals noticed that they could see fish swimming in the Venice canals, and for the first time in years, in the absence of human traffic, the water in the Venice’s canals ran clear.

China, the first country to shut down in response to the virus, has seen improved air quality and a 25% reduction in emissions since the beginning of the year. Spain, Italy, and Britain have noted similar results following national lockdowns.

What Can You Do About Climate Change?

It took a global pandemic to expose the amount of damage we do to the earth every year. As we evaluate and create an idea of what our post-quarantine life should look like, we should keep our planet in mind.

It will take a global approach to have an impact on climate change, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all do our part. Re-evaluate your habits, even taking fewer trips to the store could decrease your carbon footprint.

#ReasonsToSmile

Clearer water and cleaner air are two big reasons to smile today. Every step we take to improve our lives, and our world, during this time is worthwhile.
