Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are lightweight metal brackets that are connected by a metal wire. Both adults and children can benefit from traditional braces, which gently align the teeth over the course of several months or years.

Think you can’t afford braces? Think again! We offer affordable and low cost braces for adults and children in Dallas and Houston. The cost of braces varies on several factors. Length of treatment, orthodontic appliances, additional treatment and surgical cases influence the total cost of orthodontic treatment. There are several ways to pay for your braces.

Braces financing and payment plans

We offer numerous ways to pay for braces through payment plans, financing options and our Dental Discount Plan to make orthodontic treatment affordable. Payment plans allow you to pay for your braces on a weekly or monthly basis, similarly many financing options break payments into manageable payments. We accept all major credit cards, as well as work with Care Credit and Orthobanc financing programs.

Can you pay for braces using insurance?

It is possible to use insurance to pay for braces, if your plan includes orthodontic coverage. Some dental insurance plans cover a portion up to the full cost of braces and others provide an allowance for the treatment cost. If your plan does not cover orthodontics, it’s possible to purchase an orthodontic plan. Contact your insurer for benefit details specific to your plan.

Does Medicaid pay for braces?

Medicaid may cover a portion of the cost of braces for children 21 and under if the treatment is deemed “medically necessary”. Orthodontic treatment for cosmetic purposes is not covered by Medicaid for children or adults. A consultation is the first step to help determine whether the braces will or will not be covered for a child. We offer FREE consultations to child and adult patients who are interested in learning more about orthodontic treatment.

Preparing to get braces put on is often an exciting and nerve-racking process. Our team walks you through the braces process step by step, from financing through banding. The entire process of putting braces on takes about 1-2 hours. The orthodontist first cleans and dries your teeth, then applied the brackets with a special glue, and lastly, will secure an arch wire on the bracket with elastic bands. Brushing and flossing with braces is important for maintaining oral health, and to combatting cavities and gum disease.

The process of having your braces put on is not painful, however many patients report sensitivity or discomfort for up to a week after. It can take several days to adjust to daily activities with braces and for sensitivity to subside. Subsequently, you may feel discomfort for a few days after adjustment appointments as the braces guide the teeth into alignment.

Removing braces is a satisfying process for patients, revealing a straighter renewed smile. The process of removing braces doesn’t take long, and is not painful. The orthodontist will use pliers to remove the brackets from each tooth, and then will scrape the glue off of the surface of the teeth. Many patients opt to have their teeth whitened after removing their braces. To help preserve your new smile, it’s important to wear your retainer as advised by your orthodontist.

Patients can choose from neutral, pastel, neon and even clear-colored braces power chains and O bands, which secure the wire to the brackets. Braces colors are available at all of our orthodontic offices, although colors are not available on all types of brackets. Selecting a braces color is up to the patient. Adult patients often pick a neutral color that closely matches the color of their enamel or one that coordinates with a special occasion such as a wedding or graduation. Colors can be changed at each visit; so patients can pick a different color each time or stick with a color that they like best. Picking a color for your braces is a fun way to add flair to your orthodontic treatment.
