Healthy Easter Treats the Whole Family Will Enjoy

On April 16, 2019 Written and Reviewed by JDC Content Committee

Article at a Glance

  • Cute Easter treats are tempting, but they are usually loaded with sugar that can cause damage to your teeth.
  • Get creative with your Easter party food ideas and substitute some tasty treats that are still festive but better for your health.
  • No matter what treats you choose for Easter 2023, don’t forget to follow your oral care routine!

Cute Easter treats like jellybean bark and peanut butter eggs may be tempting because they look so scrumptious, but it may not be the best choice for your or your family. Easter baskets, brunches, and parties are often overloaded with sugary sweets that make it too easy to overindulge. Not only can these treats wreak havoc on your waistline, they can also damage your teeth. Why not switch things up for Easter 2023 and choose some healthy Easter treats for your family?

Easter Candy Alternatives

Chocolate bunnies, Cadbury Creme Eggs, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are synonymous with Easter, but they aren’t great for your health. Fortunately, there are lighter options that can give you the same nostalgic sensation without all of the guilt!

  • Substitute that milk chocolate bunny with popcorn and Easter M&Ms.
  • Skip the crème egg and dress up some creamy yogurt with lemon curd and dark chocolate chips instead.
  • Opt for a creamy peanut butter ball dipped in dark chocolate instead of a classic peanut butter egg.
  • Use your Marshmallow Peeps for Peeps Diorama Contest and munch on marshmallow crisp bars instead!
  • Homemade apple fruit leather is an easy Easter treat that tastes great and packs a lot less sugar than jelly beans.
  • Pick dark chocolate over milk chocolate. Dark chocolate tends to be lower in sugar and still tastes amazing.

Other Healthy Easter Treat Ideas

Get creative with your Easter treats this year and think outside the box. There are many options for homemade healthy Easter treats. Think carrot cakes, lemon desserts, and coffee cakes that allow you to substitute healthier options for sugar, oil, and eggs without sacrificing flavor. You could even choose a healthy sugar cookie recipe to bake, cut out, and decorate for a family affair.

Oral Care Tips for Easter 2023

In all of the excitement of family, Easter bunnies, and Easter egg hunts it’s easy to neglect your teeth, but that’s a big mistake. Sugary and acidic foods may taste good, but they wear down the enamel on your teeth. There are a few great ways to help your smile without sacrificing the Easter treats.

  • Try to follow your normal oral care routine as much as possible.
  • Remember to floss and try adding a fluoride mouthwash.
  • Skip the snacking and add your Easter treats to your meals as dessert.
  • Avoid toffees and hard sweets that are tougher to remove.
  • Drink water instead of coffee and sugary drinks.
  • If you’re traveling, check out some of these tips to help.

If you go a little overboard this Easter, make an appointment for a check-up and professional teeth cleaning at the Jefferson Dental Care clinic nearest you.
