Dental Tips for Your Kids

Dental tips for your kids

It’s that time of year again. Back-to-school may look different this year, but that doesn’t mean we should break with tradition. For many children and teens, that means returning to a routine, which should include a back-to-school dental check-up.  Keep reading for some great dental tips for your kids!

Building Oral Care into the Daily Routine

Following a good oral health routine is important all year, but when your kiddo is working back into school, it can be even more critical. There are three big reasons to establish oral care as part of your kid’s school day:

1. Establish Some Normalcy

When kids aren’t used to getting up, especially if they’re just logging onto a virtual classroom, it can be easy to skip over that morning tooth brushing. When you get up and follow a typical school routine (including a few minutes to brush), it normalizes the school day.

2. Maintain a Healthy Smile

It’s easy to get out of step and lose a routine altogether. Before you know it, one skipped morning turns into two, and then three, and so on. What happens to your child’s mouth if they stop brushing and flossing?

Young children grow and change a lot, so missing out on good oral care routines can lead to big problems down the line. Older children may have braces that require extra care, and even though teens think they’re indestructible, they can lose teeth to poor oral hygiene just like the rest of the world.

3. Fight Diseases and Viruses

Now more than ever before, we have to take our health seriously. Good oral care maintains a healthy balance of good bacteria in your mouth while eradicating bad bacteria and washing away germs that can harm us, including viruses. Help your kids stay healthier by infusing good oral care into their daily routine.

Schedule a Back-to-School Check-Up

Regular preventative care check-ups allow your dentist to catch small issues before they become big problems. They can make referrals to orthodontists or help coach your kids on the importance of good oral care (in case your tween or teen has reached the “parents know nothing” phase). Keep these dental tips for your kids in mind when you’re getting into your new routine.

Now is the time to take advantage of our extended summer promotions and special deals. Book an appointment for your child at the Jefferson Dental & Orthodontics office nearest you!
