March 2, 2015:The Jefferson Cares School Program visited students at Kent Elementary School in Carrollton to teach the importance of good oral health care.
“The students’ eyes lit up when our oral health experts explained the 2x2x2 rule, which teaches kids to brush twice a day, floss twice a day and visit the dentist twice a year,” says Mario Garcia, Community Wellness Coordinator.
Kindergarten and first grade students listened and engaged with oral health experts from Jefferson Dental Clinics team. The 160 students learned the both the importance of dental care and how to properly care for teeth through daily brushing and flossing and annual dental exams.
The Jefferson Cares School Program is a prevention program aimed at teaching young students the importance of oral health care from an early age. The program brings dental care to life, through explorative activities and interactive speakers. Every student also goes home with a brand new children’s dental hygiene kit, to promote at home care.
Nurses at schools invite the Jefferson Cares team to present to students during the spring or fall semester. The spring semester of 2015 the Jefferson Cares School program will serve roughly 2,000 students in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
