April 10, 2015: The Jefferson Cares School Program visited students at Sheffield Elementary School in Dallas to teach the importance of good oral health care.
“Every child deserves the opportunity and resources to establish good dental care habits,” says Mario Garcia, Community Wellness Coordinator.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students listened and engaged with oral health experts from Jefferson Dental Clinics team. The students learned both the importance of dental care and how to properly care for teeth through daily brushing and flossing and annual dental exams.
The Jefferson Cares School Program is a prevention program aimed at teaching young students the importance of oral health care from an early age. The program brings dental care to life, through explorative activities and interactive speakers. Every student also goes home with a brand new children’s dental hygiene kit, to promote at home care.
Nurses at schools invite the Jefferson Cares team to present to students during the spring or fall semester. The spring semester of 2015 the Jefferson Cares School program will serve roughly 2,000 students in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
