December 8, 2015 – The Jefferson Dental Community Wellness team celebrated the beginning of the new year by bringing the dental health resources to the families at Dallas Life.
The Community Wellness team spent two days speaking to families and individuals about ways to maintain healthy teeth, as well as provided resources for dental care.
On the first day, the team spoke to groups of children at the shelter about the importance of taking care of teeth, healthy foods to eat and when to see the dentist.
“We like to present to children and youth, so that they can establish good oral health habits early on that last throughout life,” says Jackie Rea, Community Wellness Manager, Jefferson Dental.
The second day, the team spoke to the phase 2 men’s group and to groups of women at Dallas Life. The team presented on the importance of dental care, ways to finance dental care and provided dental care resources, then took questions from the groups.
“Everyone deserves to be empowered to care for their smiles, and all too often people are not aware of the resources that are available to them to care for their oral health,” says Rea. “ For example, many parents are unaware that Medicaid and Chip will cover dental visits for kids. Armed with those tools, more people can receive the dental exams that they need.”
The Community Wellness program provides educational oral health presentations and resources to schools and community agencies like Dallas Life throughout the year.
